The ‘Rocksby Rail’ museum will again feature theFEPOW memorial steam locomotive ‘SINGAPORE’,which was captured by the Japanese at the Fall of Singapore in 1942, and whichworked alongside thousands of Allied POWs. It was eventually brought back tothe UK to form part of a FEPOW Memorial at the Living Ironstone Museum.
The loco will be on commemorativedisplay at the museum at its Open Day, Bank Holiday Monday, the 26th August, tomark the 79th anniversary of FEPOW liberation. The museum opens from 10am to4pm and normal admission prices apply.
The display will be supplemented thisyear by a short commemoration at 1pm on Thursday 12th September, when FEPOWlosses are remembered on the 80th anniversary of the sinking of two JapaneseHell-Ships. After a short address, wreaths and orchids will be laid on thefootplate of the Singapore loco. COFEPOW members are most welcome to attend andwill be given free admission on that day.
