I think COFEPOW is missing the point if it is planning to issue blanket forgiveness to Japanese war criminals on behalf of their victims.
It is for the Far Eastern Prisoners of War themselves to do this, if they so choose, and no one else. As most of them are no longer with us, this seems a pointless exercise, guaranteed to hurt and upset many prisoners' families.
If COFEPOW is going down this road, it goes without me. I am uneasy about being associated with an organisation that could take it upon itself to act in this way.
